TMC and CPI(M) leaders clash over Jadavpur University unrest and Education Minister's role | Watch

Tensions between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] have escalated following a recent incident at Jadavpur University (JU). CPI(M) leader Srijan Bhattacharya accused Education Minister Bratya Basu of only listening to students affiliated with the TMC-backed student organization, TMCP, while ignoring the concerns of others. Bhattacharya criticized the minister for not addressing the broader student community's issues, stating that the Education Minister should represent all students across the state. He further alleged that Basu's car was involved in an incident where a student was run over, calling for the minister’s arrest in connection to the incident.

In response, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee defended his party’s position, referencing an incident where the Education Minister was surrounded at JU. Banerjee asserted that if CPI(M) leaders were to be surrounded in a similar manner, they would have no escape. Both parties continue to exchange sharp words, with the standoff at Jadavpur University highlighting the ongoing political rift between the two sides over student welfare and governance.
